The Commandant’s Shadow
While Hans Jurgen Höss experienced a joyful upbringing in the family home at Auschwitz, Jewish inmate Anita Lasker-Wallfisch was struggling to endure the infamous concentration camp. Central to this film is the historic and uplifting encounter—eighty years later—when the two meet in person. This marks the first occasion where a descendant of a significant war criminal meets a survivor in such a personal and intimate environment, specifically Anita’s living room in London. Alongside their children, Kai Höss and Maya Lasker-Wallfisch, the four individuals delve into the contrasting legacies they have inherited.
