November Child
In 1980, in Malchow, East Germany, 20-year-old Anne is sheltering Juri, a deserter from the Red Army. The pair fall in love, but their romance is fraught with danger: Juri faces an arrest warrant and potentially a death sentence. They decide to escape to the West, leaving behind Anne’s six-month-old daughter, Inga. Inga is raised by her grandparents, believing her mother perished in a swimming accident. A quarter-century later, she encounters Robert, a literature professor who had met Anne during one of his classes. Initially hesitant, Inga eventually seeks Robert’s assistance. Together, they embark on a journey across Germany to uncover the truth about Anne.
